A teenager who stabbed a man 142 times was found guilty of murder yesterday.
A jury at the High Court in Aberdeen found Peter Allen, 19, guilty of killing 48-year-old Raymond Black in Carluke, South Lanarkshire, in January this year.
Mr Black was found lying in a pool of blood with a kitchen knife in his eye socket while his daughter, aged 2, slept in another room. Police investigating the case said that the injuries were the worst they had ever seen.
Judge Lord Brodie deferred sentence for background reports.
The court was told that Allen, who committed the murder eight weeks after serving a six-month sentence for assault, would go round to Mr Black’s house to drink alcohol and smoke cannabis.
He had been drinking with the victim at his house before attacking him with a lamp, a glass and Irn Bru bottle and cutting his throat with a knife. Allen had initially told police that Mr Black tried to attack him with the knife and that he had been forced to defend himself. He later claimed that Mr Black had made a sexual approach towards him.
Allen was also charged with stealing Mr Black’s wife’s car after the murder but the Crown dropped the charge.
During the trial, Allen’s defence lawyer, Donald Findlay, QC, asked Detective Sergeant Graeme Lannigan about the crime scene: “This has clearly been an incident between the individuals of significant, protracted violence. This was no mere fight?”
“Yes. It’s clearly not a fight. The injuries were significant. \ the worst I’ve ever seen,” the detective replied
Speaking outside the court, Mr Black’s family said that no sentence would be long enough.
His 17-year-old daughter, Sheree, said: “Our dad adored his family, he was always there for me and now he’s not. No matter what happens, justice will never be done. Peter Allen is a filthy animal and I hope he rots.”
Mr Black’s eldest son, Sean, 23, said: “As far as I’m concerned justice will never be served as long as he is alive and my dad is dead. Obviously the jury knew themselves that his story was a pack of lies.
“If he’s away for the rest of his life I’ll be happy.”
