Shanaze Reade of Team GB survived an unexpected spill this morning on the first seeding run in the women's BMX, to recover and place second seed after her follow-up run on the course in Laoshan.
The 19 year old's bike skidded out of control early on the first run and left her sprawled across the race route, but she sustained only minor scrapes to her elbow and thigh. In her second run, she was second fastest behind Anne Caroline Chausson of France.
Reade laughed the crash off when she spoke to the media afterwards. “Never be afraid.” she said. “That's BMX, it can be unpredictable, I don't know exactly what happened, we'll have to look at the videos.”
Revealing the positive mindset that has characterised Team GB's cyclists throughout thse Olympic Games, Reade responded: “It's mine,” when asked if she could win BMX gold.
