Smugshots special: a new perspective
Fifty of the best optical illusions and camera trickery in our new perspective-bending competition
VIEW THE MONTHLY SMUGSHOTS GALLERIES
The summer's here and it's time for a new smugshots competition to run alongside our regular galleries. We've been inundated over the past three years with clever pictures that play with perspective, creating optical illusions aplenty.
We've had plenty of destinations popping up again and again, from taking the lid off the Taj Mahal, to picking up the Great Pyramids and holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa. We've also had lots from all sorts of location - in fields, on beaches. And there's plenty more places and ideas to be had and shared with other Times Online readers.
To the right you'll find the most common location for those kinds of shots in a formidable collection of perspectives from the salt flats in Bolivia. The gallery is now up to 25 shots.
On the left is a gallery of 25 of the best optical tricks submitted from destinations other than Bolivia.
So get sending, the best one each month will win a Lonely Planet guidebook.
Our June winner is Marie Cope - her entry is pictured at the top of the page, some suspiciously small people jigging on the arms of her friend.
Even though our June winner is another Bolivia shot, we had some more great entries from around the world, so kep thinking of different places to try and catch us out with.
Also, to the left you'll find the best of the 2008-2009 ski season smugs and the best smugshots of last year.
We continue to publish winning images on a regular basis (you can see the latest here), with the monthly winner claiming a Lonely Planet guidebook of their choice.
